Inspiring and supporting young people to live happy, healthy, and successful lives.
Keys’ Activity and Intervention services are homes that provide crisis intervention using outdoor activities as a positive interrupter to young people’s negative cycles.
The services provide a 90-day stay with 2:1 staffing levels. We are licensed by the Adventurous Activities Licensing Service (AALS) and have an activities manager in place to ensure the services we operate meet the highest standards. We also consult with a range of external technical experts when necessary.
We act quickly and effectively to turn a crisis situation into a positive experience by working closely with the young person. Our programmes are designed to help children overcome their trauma through a variety of activities.
Our A&I services provide an alternative to unregulated provisions and assist and enable Local Authority partners to meet changing sufficiency needs within their local area.
We offer a range of specialist programmes to help children feel safe, happy, and loved.
Within these programmes, we help children heal, learn, identify potential risk-taking behaviour, and mitigate it.

Activity & Intervention Programme:
Keys’ Activity and Intervention services have an excellent track record of working successfully with:
The services are also experienced in working with young people who present sexually inappropriate behaviours or have a history of substance misuse.
Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE) Programme:
This programme was developed in conjunction with young people through thorough consultation around their thoughts, feelings and lived experiences.
Our programme recognises that children who are exploited may often
not understand that they are victims of abuse. Gang-affiliated young people are likely to have experienced grooming often through social media, peer influence, and may have experienced serious youth violence that has created a traumatic bond to harmful people. As such, young people may feel compelled to return to the context of their abuse,
and we consider this when safety planning and developing formulations for safer engagement.
Step Toward Programme:
At Activity & Intervention our step towards programme offers a safe space for young people facing difficulties in transitional stages of their journey.
We have recognised that it is sometimes challenging for people to
successfully move from more secure placements or those with restrictions, straight into group residential settings or back to the area where they were potentially at risk.
Completing our programme has numerous positive outcomes for the young person, including:
Improved self-esteem and confidence
Development of coping strategies
Enhanced social skills
Our programmes include a mix of outdoor and slower-paced activities:
These activities are structured to help the young person build confidence, develop new skills, and find joy in new experiences.
Outdoor Activities: Mountain biking, canoeing, climbing, and more.
Slower-paced Activities: Walking, visiting farms, and more.

Residential Care ManagerHe struggled in previous placements, but this location suits him. He's engaged in school and therapy and seems settled. The staff are nurturing, set boundaries, and meet his needs. I'm pleased with his progress.
