Crown House, nestled in the heart of Great Malvern, Worcestershire, stands as Keys’ most established family assessment centre, catering to up to seven families.
Renowned for its longstanding commitment to providing exceptional support to families and their infants, Crown House has also expanded its expertise to focus on parents with learning disabilities, employing the Parent Assess model, which allows for comprehensive 14-week assessments.
Each family enjoys a private bedroom, equipped with either an en-suite or private bathroom. The centre’s warm and inviting shared spaces encompass a fully equipped kitchen, cosy lounges, a well-appointed playroom/nursery, a dining area, and a convenient laundry room.
The team at Crown House Family Assessment Centre supported Amy* a mother who had experienced mental health issues and learning difficulties. Amy was very vulnerable and had no support network around her. After giving birth to her third child, Amy came to Crown House for an assessment. Sadly, her older children had been removed from her care shortly after being born as the professionals supporting Amy had been concerned she may, because of her difficulties, have struggled to meet all of their needs.
During her time at Crown House, the team developed a very positive working relationship with Amy. They supported her closely, modelling basic parenting skills which included how to handle a baby. The team also made sure Amy received the medication she needed to treat her mental health challenges and supported her to attend appointments with the professionals around her while she stayed at the Centre.
After very careful observations and assessment, it was clear to the teams of professionals supporting Amy and her baby that, as a result of her challenges, she would not be able to keep her baby safe. This decision was made at the midpoint review. Before Amy moved on from Crown House, the team staff continued to work very closely with Amy, offering 1:1 support so that she could spend time making memories with her baby, for example taking him out for a day to the Sealife Centre. They helped her make hand and footprints and recorded their time together in photographs for her to take home.
Since leaving the Centre Amy has been in touch with the team to thank them for their support and to say she misses them, demonstrating the positive impact the team had during Amy’s short time with them at Crown House.
