Fairways School in Birmingham has been rated Good by Ofsted Inspectors, just five months after opening its doors.
The school, which caters for students with specialist social, emotional and mental health needs, was described by Ofsted as having a ‘warm and friendly atmosphere’ which significantly impacts on pupils’ engagement with school life.
Teachers at Fairways were praised for their strong subject knowledge, along with their skilful methods of making the work relevant to pupils’ interests. Ofsted commended the school for developing pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) awareness, highlighting the Italian day held recently, as well as the school’s engagement with anti-bullying and alcohol awareness weeks.
Robust safeguarding practices were pinpointed for helping pupils feel safe and secure. Ofsted commented that parents and carers ‘greatly value the school’s work because it has made such a difference to their children’s behaviour and confidence’.
Pupils’ attendance has also increased markedly since they started, showing that they enjoy being part of Fairways School and are eager to learn there.

- ‘Keyworkers have excellent relationships with pupils. As a result, pupils trust them implicitly’.
- ‘Parents say that they cannot fault the school. They are exceptionally happy about their children’s greatly improved behaviour both at home and at school’.
‘We are absolutely delighted with our first inspection report that clearly recognises the team’s commitment and passion for improving young people’s lives’.
